Syrian Ex-Minister Hails Close Alignment with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s former Minister of Information Mahdi Dakhlallah hailed as positive a recent visit to Damascus by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, saying the two countries are closely coordinated on the regional issues.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Friday, Dakhlallah said the top Iranian diplomat’s recent visit to Syria is seen as part of constant coordination between Tehran and Damascus, which he described as friends and brothers.

He noted that the two allies are highly coordinated even on details.

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Zarif paid on official visit to Syria to hold talks with senior officials on various bilateral and regional issues, particularly a crisis that has gripped the Arab country for more than four years.

Zarif met Syria's President Bashar al-Assad as well as Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem and discussed a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Elsewhere in his interview with Tasnim, Dakhlallah said Damascus has considered Zarif’s proposals with a “positive view”, since the two countries are on the same wavelength when it comes to principles of any political solution to the lingering crisis in Syria.

Back on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman announced that Tehran will introduce its 4-article plan to end the Syrian crisis after the conclusion of its consultations with regional states over the issue.

“Iran’s four-article plan to help resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria has been prepared within the framework of the previously-mentioned principles and is being updated,” Afkham said.

She noted that “the plan will be put forth after consultations with the Syrian government and other influential players.”

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 220,000 people have died in the Arab country - overwhelmingly civilians - and around 4 million Syrians are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
