US Policies Root Cause of Terrorism in Region: Iran’s UN Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations blamed the conflicts in the Middle East region, particularly the scourge of terrorism, on the wrong policies adopted by the US.

Terrorist activities across the Middle East region are rooted in the United States' wrong policies, Gholamali Khoshroo said in a gathering of university students in Tehran on Sunday.

The US interference in the region has opened the door to terrorism and sectarianism, he noted.

Khoshroo further hit back at US officials for accusing Iran of causing instability in the region, stressing that Tehran spares no efforts to contribute to the regional stability.

Last week, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani also reaffirmed that Tehran employs its power to bring about peace and security in the region, a clear sign of which was its diplomatic success in nuclear talks with major world powers.

He stressed that Iran’s power involves “logic” and the ability to “negotiate” and “hoist the flag of peace”, not only the military gear.
