Irish Envoy: Iran Region’s Key Player

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ireland’s new ambassador to Tehran, Brendan Ward, highlighted Iran’s influential position in the Middle East, calling for Iran’s more active role in the regional developments.

Ward submitted his credentials to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting in Tehran on Sunday morning.

Praising Iran as the region’s key player, the envoy called for Iran’s more active role in the regional developments, particularly after conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He also voiced Ireland’s keenness to cooperate with all friendly countries, including Iran, in the fight against terrorism.

President Rouhani, for his part, stressed the need for more consultations between Iran and Ireland in the battle against terrorism and violence.

He also called for stronger bilateral cooperation in economic, cultural, academic and tourism areas.

Earlier in August, the Irish Examiner reported that Ireland’s companies plan to increase their investment in Iran as foreign companies are rushing to rekindle their business with Tehran following conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and the six world powers.

Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal would subject the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
