President Rouhani Urges Closer Iran-Mexico Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s president congratulated Mexico on its Independence Day, hoping for stronger cooperation and dialogue between Iran and the North American nation.

In a congratulatory message to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani expressed the hope that relations and cooperation between Tehran and Mexico City would expand in light of joint efforts and targeted, effective negotiations between the two countries’ officials.

Rouhani also wished success for Peña Nieto and prosperity for the Mexican nation and government.

Last week, Mexican Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare Alfonso Navarrete Prida visited Tehran and held meetings with a number of top Iranian officials.

He was the first Mexican cabinet minister to visit Iran in over a decade.

Earlier in June, Chairman of Mexican Senate's Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barrón also came to Iran.

International attention was riveted on Iran and its great potential for trade and investment after conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The landmark deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will have all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran terminated after taking effect.
