Iran’s Intelligence, Defense Ministers Attend Parliament Session on JCPOA
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alavi and Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan participated in a meeting of the parliament’s special commission set up to review the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In the meeting held on Tuesday afternoon in Tehran, the two ministers and members of the commission focused on security and military issues in the finalized text of a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as the JCPOA.
The commission’s meeting earlier this morning touched upon the economic aspects of the nuclear agreement recently reached between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who served as a senior Iranian negotiator in the nuclear negotiations, President's Chief of Staff Mohammad Nahavandian, and Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, and Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi.
Iran and the Group 5+1 finalized the text of a lasting agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program in the Austrian capital of Vienna on July 14.
The deal has its opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the JCPOA, particularly the US.
Several Iranian negotiators have already attended a number of sessions in the parliament to explain and review the JCPOA.
A report is expected to be released in the coming days on the commission’s scrutiny of the text.
The 159-page JCPOA has subjected the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.
