Syria Thanks Iran, Russia for Supporting Damascus in Face of Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham has thanked Iran and Russia for supporting the Syrian government in the face of terrorism, media reports said.

Iran, Russia, and other member states of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are backing Syria in its battle against Takfiri terrorists and Western attempts to establish their dominance over the Arab country, Jihad al-Laham said on Sunday, SANA reported.

The Syrian parliament speaker further stressed that his nation is resolved more than any time before to uproot the Takfiri terrorists who are operating across the crisis-torn country.

The remarks by Mohammad Jihad al-Laham came after Russia launched its first air strikes against terrorist targets in Syria.

The aerial attacks took place hours after Russian parliament gave a formal consent to President Vladimir Putin to use the country’s military in Syria to fight terrorism at a request from the Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Thursday voiced the country’s support for Russia’s attacks against Takfiri terrorists in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 240,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians– and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
