Iranian defender Jalal Hosseini equalized the match in the 70th minute after receiving a cross from Ehsan Hajisafi into the six-yard.
The two teams remain level on eight points at the top of the Group D standings with the three-time Asian champion holding pole position courtesy of a superior goal difference.
The group winners and four best runners-up (total 12 teams) will advance to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
