TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Japan's national football teams drew 1-1 in a friendly game held here at the Azadi Stadium.

Substitute Mehdi Torabi restored Iran's lead in first-half injury time.

Three minutes into the second half, Yoshinori Muto equalized the match after Alireza Haghighi made a mistake.

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz fielded the young and inexperienced players in this match.

Iran and Japan have played against each other sixteen times which resulted in six wins for Iran and five wins for Japan while five matches ended up in a draw.

Japan and Iran are gearing up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
