Iran Hails Kuwait’s 'Constructive' Approach to Regional Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham welcomed as “constructive” a recent call by Kuwait's Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled al-Jarallah for dialogue with Iran on regional issues.

"The approach of the Kuwaiti government is constructive and praiseworthy,” Afkham said on Sunday.

She added this is why Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif chose Kuwait as the first destination of his regional tour after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) finalized between Tehran and world powers on July 14 in the Austrian city of Vienna.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran's firm stance gives priority to the development of ties with its neighbors," the spokeswoman said, noting that Iran has so far left unanswered no initiative and proposal for promotion of relations.

Afkham further expressed the hope that Iran's other Southern neighbors will seize the current opportunity to start a serious and productive dialogue with Iran.

In a Sunday interview with the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, Khaled al-Jarallah had said that Kuwait favors “diplomacy” and “dialogue” rather than confrontation with Iran on regional issues.
