Brazilian Minister, Trade Delegation in Iran for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade Armando Monteiro, heading a large trade delegation, will arrive in Tehran on Monday for high-level talks on expansion of Tehran-Brasilia economic ties.

Monteiro will lead a delegation of Brazilian officials from its Chamber of Commerce, Central Bank, foreign ministry’s economic authorities, and 35 tradesmen and economic activists from the Latin American country’s private sector.

During their 3-day visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet Iranian ministers of foreign affairs, economy, energy, industry, and a number of officials from Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and private banks.

The trip is said to be aimed at the reinforcement of ties between Iran and Brazil in the fields of foreign trade, energy, banking, agriculture, and investment.

During the visit, a conference is also due to be held on the opportunities for Iran-Brazil cooperation with the two countries’ ministers of trade in attendance.

A large number of Iranian and Brazilian firms active in various fields of industry, food, nanotechnology, aerospace, telecommunications, and machineries will also take part in the conference.

Brazil is Iran’s most important economic partner in the Latin America. The two countries have an annual bilateral trade value of $1.6 billion.

Brazil mainly exports to Iran its meat, sugar and corn products, and Tehran’s major exports to Brazil include carpet, raisin, and petrochemicals.

As the seventh largest economy in the world, Brazil is one of the regional powers in the Latin America, and is trying to join world powers.

Along with Russia, India, and China, which are all deemed to be at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development, Brazil has formed the international group of BRIC. The four BRIC countries accounted for over a quarter of the world's land area and more than 40% of the world's population in 2010.
