S. Korea Impatient to Invest in Iran: FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se voiced his country’s willingness to broaden economic relations with Iran as soon as a final nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers terminates the anti-Iran sanctions.

The major South Korean companies are impatient to take the opportunities in Iran’s market once the sanctions are lifted, the top Korean diplomat said in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Saturday.

Yun noted that the South Korean investors will flood in Iran’s market in future, predicting a remarkable rise in the reciprocal visits between the two countries’ officials.

President Rouhani, for his part, hoped that the South Korean companies would promote cooperation with the Iranian private sectors following implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Highlighting Iran’s great capabilities and “premium position” in the region and South Korea’s significance in East Asia, Rouhani said Tehran and Seoul could unleash their capacities to enhance relations in all fields.

The South Korean foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Saturday for the first official visit in 14 years.

His visit comes against the backdrop of achievement of the July nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The 159-page agreement will terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after taking effect.
