Iranian Parliament to Set Up Committee to Monitor JCPOA Implementation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Rapporteur of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, announced that a committee will be established in the parliament soon to supervise the implementation of a recent nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers (known as JCPOA).
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Nozar Shafiee said according to the law, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and has to submit a report on the issue every six months.
Therefore, he added, the commission has taken some measures to set up a committee named "The Monitoring Committee” to keep an eye on the procedures of the implantation of the JCPOA.
The Iranian parliamentarian further emphasized that the committee will be established in coming days.
“The committee’s members and its mechanisms will be determined at meetings of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission next week,” Shafiee noted.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) was also planned to hold a session to select members of another committee responsible for supervising the implementation of the JCPOA.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had ordered the formation of the committee on October 21.
The existence of complexities and ambiguities in the JCPOA and the possibility of breach of commitments and deception on the part of the other side, especially the US, necessitate that a strong, observant and smart committee be formed to monitor the progress of works, fulfilment of the other side’s commitments and realization of the observations mentioned, Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani.
The committee’s arrangement and responsibilities should be formulated and approved by the SNSC, Imam Khamenei added at the time.
