Russia Ready to Negotiate Partial Localization of Superjet Production in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russia will be ready to go over to the partial localization of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 production in Iran, if Tehran takes a decision on purchasing ready-made aircraft, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said after a two-day visit to Iran.

"If Iran takes these decisions on Sukhoi Superjet and on the future purchase of ready-made aircraft, at some point, using a particular specimen of the delivered aircraft, we will go over to the partial localization of production on Iran’s territory," Rogozin told Rossiya 24 TV channel.

According to the Deputy PM, Iran is capable of carrying out work within the country provided a political decision is taken to resume comprehensive industrial cooperation with Russia.

"Now I am fully convinced that there are all the required resources, given a political decision is made to resume comprehensive industrial collaboration with Russia, in particular in the aviation sector, so that the Iranians can carry out the work within their territory," Rogozin said.

Back on September 27, Head of Iran's National Space Center Manouchehr Manteqi said Tehran had inked contracts worth $21 billion with Moscow for the purchase of satellite-related equipment, as well as Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger planes, at the MAKS-2015 international air show.

"There is a large share of contracts for the purchase of this type of aircraft," he said, not specifying, however, the exact number of jets.

An Iranian delegation visited the MAKS-2015 air show held in the Russian city of Zhukovsky in the Moscow region between August 25 and August 30.

Following the recent nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, foreign officials, business executives and financial bodies are shuttling to Iran to lay the groundwork for investment and trade.

The comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.
