US Set to Take Next Step in Implementing JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Washington said it is ready to take the next step in implementing a recent nuclear deal finalized by Iran and world powers.

It came after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released its report on the so-called PMD (possible military dimensions) in Iran’s nuclear program, in which the agency confirmed that it has no credible indications of suspicious work in Tehran’s nuclear activities.

“The IAEA has confirmed that Iran met its commitments to provide responses to IAEA requests under the roadmap for clarification of past and present issues,” US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said following the release of the report.

He added that the US is ready to move ahead and take the next step in implementing the Iran nuclear deal.

The UN nuclear agency’s report will be the basis of one final report by the IAEA Board of Governors that is expected to close the case on the so-called PMD in Iran’s nuclear program once and for all.

On July 14, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On the same day, Tehran and the IAEA signed a roadmap based on which the agency is required to finish its investigations about outstanding issues regarding Iran’s nuclear program and submit a report to the Board of Governors by December 15.

Washington and the other members of the G5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) will submit a motion to the IAEA board on December 15 to officially close the PMD case, Toner said.

“And then, after that, we can focus on implementing the JCPOA,” he went on to say.
