Russia in Talks with Iran on Gas Swap to Supply Armenia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The CEO of Russia’s natural gas producer, Gazprom, said the company is in talks with Iran to offer gas supplies to Armenia under a swap agreement.

"Yes, we did discuss this issue, currently we are working on the issues of exchange operations with our Iranian colleagues," Sputnik quoted Alexey Miller as saying on Tuesday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Georgian Energy Minister Kakhaber Kaladze.

At present, the Russian gas is being supplied to Armenia via Georgia.

Back in October, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, after talks with Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak, said Tehran is ready for oil and gas swap deals with Russia.

He added Iran, under such deals, would receive gas, crude oil and oil derivatives from Russia in the north and deliver oil products to Russian customers in the south.
