Israel Incapable of Fighting Lebanon: Ex-Defense Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A former Lebanese defense minister underlined that the Zionist regime of Israel’s recent war rhetoric against the Arab country comes from “a position of weakness”.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Abdul Rahim Mourad pointed to the recent threats against Lebanon by the Tel Aviv regime in case of a Hezbollah attack in retaliation for Israel’s assassination of its high-ranking member Samir Qantar, saying the Zionist regime is unable to wage a new war on Lebanon.

“I believe that after suffering a heavy defeat in the 2006 war, the Zionists are not capable of waging a new massive war (on Lebanon),” the former commander noted.

He further said the Israeli regime is fully aware that the power and military capabilities of Hezbollah have developed significantly compared to the 33-Day War.

The Tel Aviv regime invaded Lebanon in 2006. About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the aggression, known as the 33-Day War.

In that war, Hezbollah fighters defeated Israel that was only able to commit massacres but failed to achieve any of its military or political objectives.

The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, said last week that it will not leave Israel’s assassination of Samir Qantar unanswered.

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah made the remarks during a televised broadcast on December 21, following Qantar’s funeral in the capital Beirut.

Qantar was killed during the Israeli raid that targeted his home in the Syrian city of Jaramana near the capital Damascus on December 20.
