Iran’s Powerlifter Rahman Expresses Grief over Death of Joseano Felipe

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian powerlifter Siamand Rahman has paid tribute to Brazilian counterpart Joseano Felipe, who died on Thursday.

Felipe suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at the age of 42.

“Dear respected Paralympic athletes in Brazil,  I am really sorry to hear thast Joseano Felipe passed away. Hereby I send my heartfelt condolences to you all, especially his family at this difficult situation,” Rahman wrote on his Instagram account.

Felipe was close to qualifying for his first Paralympic Games after setting a continental record in the +107kg class at the Rio 2016 test event with a lift of 206kg.

The former policeman was left paralyzed after being shot in the spine while trying to stop a mass jailbreak in 2000.
