Iranian Spokesman Lashes Out at Saudi Arabia's Regional Policies

Speaking in his weekly press conference here in Tehran, Jaberi Ansari dismissed recent allegations raised by Saudi officials on Iran’s role in some explosions in the Arab country, and said that it is one of Saudi Arabia’s constant policies to blame other countries for the developments detrimental to Riyadh.

“Denying domestic problems and pinning the blame on other countries would only lead to the deepening and exacerbation of domestic issues, problems, and crises, and will bear no fruit for Saudi Arabia,” he noted.

He pointed to decades of Saudi Arabia’s support for terrorism in achieving its so-called national interests, saying, “Increased terrorist movements inside Saudi Arabia are the results of these decades-long policies in sponsoring terrorism and extremism.”

“Policies based on extremism and terrorism not only create instability and insecurity in the region and the world, but also its consequences directly affects Saudi Arabia,” Jaberi Ansari added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he further questioned Riyadh’s resolve to cooperate with the Syrian peace process, saying recent remarks made by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir on a so-called “Plan B” for Syria indicate that Riyadh and certain other players are not serious enough.

“I hope such stances do not demonstrate these players’ final policy in support for the continuation of this crisis,” he said.

Jubeir on Sunday claimed that Russia and the Syrian government air force have violated a recent truce on cessation of hostilities in Syria, saying that there would be a “plan B” if it became clear that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s government and its allies were not serious about the truce.
