President Visits Development Projects on Kish Island
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s president travelled to the country’s southern island of Kish in the Persian Gulf and visited a number of development projects on the island, a major tourist destination.
President Hassan Rouhani arrived on Kish on Monday and made visits to the major projects that are aimed at giving a boost to the economy of the island, also a Free Trade Zone.
The president visited a wastewater treatment plant, a knowledge-based company producing natural body tissues with expertise in tissue engineering, a new hotel with overwater bungalows, a project on modification of the western coastal line of Kish, and the site of construction of a power plant.
Speaking to reporters, the president noted that he is going to have a meeting with heads of Iran's Free Trade Zones on the Persian Gulf island of Hendurabi on Tuesday to study and finalize plans in conformity with the Article 11 of the Resistance Economy policies, which highlights the role of FTZs in strengthening the economy by attracting technology and investment and stimulating the production and exports.
His comments came after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday named the new Persian year “Year of Resistance Economy: Action and Implementation.”
Back in 2014, Ayatollah Khamenei had sent a proclamation to heads of Iran’s branches of power and outlined general policies to boost the country’s economy and lower its vulnerabilities under a grand plan, dubbed Resistance Economy.
