President Rouhani Congratulates Pakistan on Republic Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is slated to pay an official visit to Islamabad on Friday, congratulated Pakistan on its Republic Day.

In a message Wednesday, Rouhani offered his congratulations to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the neighboring country’s government and nation on the occasion.

He expressed the hope that his upcoming visit will help develop and deepen Tehran-Islamabad ties at the bilateral, regional and international levels.

The Iranian chief executive also wished health and success for the Pakistani premier and nation.

Pakistan Day or Republic Day, also Pakistan Resolution Day, is a national holiday in Pakistan to commemorate the Lahore Resolution of March 23, 1940, and the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan during the transition of the Dominion of Pakistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Marc 23, 1956.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani will arrive in Islamabad on Friday at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

President Rouhani’s two-day visit to Pakistan will take place in response to Sharif’s last year trip to Iran.

Promoting bilateral ties between the two neighbors and particularly boosting economic cooperation in the new atmosphere created after Tehran and six world powers reached a nuclear deal (JCPOA), will be high on agenda during the visit.
