Construction of ‘Pakistan Gate’ near Iran Border Underway: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Pakistani government has started building a security gate near the Iranian border at Taftan to stop illegal trade, a report said.
Frontier Corps (FC) Sector Commander Brigadier Khalid Beg and Baluchistan Collector Customs Saeed Ahmed Jadoon on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the 'Pakistan Gate' at Taftan in Chagai district, a Pakistani security official said.
"The construction will be completed by August 14 and the estimated cost is about Rs 15 million (about $224000)," added the official as cited by The Economic Times.
The 'Pakistan Gate' aims to improve border management and curb illegal trade between the two neighboring countries.
Pakistani officials believe that construction of the gate would be smooth as Iran has already constructed a trade gate on its side of the border at Mir Java in the southeastern city of Zahedan, Sistan and Balouchestan province.
Iran has also erected 10-foot-high walls at various places along with its border with Pakistan in an attempt to beef up security on its borders and stop the flow of illicit drugs.
