The base tweeted Thursday morning, instructing all personnel at the base in Washington's Maryland suburbs to shelter in place and says more information will be released as it comes.

The military base was placed on lockdown just before 9 a.m.

Later, sources confirmed that no active shooter was at Joint Base Anderws and the   situation is "all clear", CBS News reported

Joint Base Andrews is located around 20 miles outside of downtown Washington, D.C. and hosts aircraft used by US President Barack Obama.

The president flew into Andrews on Air Force One around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday on his return from a summit in Canada.

During a Senate hearing, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson interrupted his testimony to tell lawmakers that “we have an unfolding situation” at Andrews “which may require that I take a break” from the hearing.
