Iran, Azerbaijan Eye Closer Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev, in a telephone conversation made on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, voiced readiness for enhancement of bilateral relations in all fields.

In the telephone conversation on Tuesday, the two presidents congratulated each other on the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr.

President Rouhani said the strong bond between the two nations has provided good grounds for the governments to boost relations in all fields.

He also noted that Tehran is ready to promote ties with Baku to such a level that the two nations would get the most out of the mutual opportunities.

For his part, Aliyev said the political and economic agreements between Tehran and Baku offer a bright prospect for bilateral ties.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.

Back in February, Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
