Iran's President Congratulates Swiss Counterpart on National Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani offered his congratulations to the Swiss government and people on the country's national day.

In a message to President of the Swiss Confederation Johann Schneider-Ammann, President Rouhani felicitated the European country’s national day and called for closer ties between Iran and Switzerland.

Rouhani said a February trip by his Swiss counterpart to Tehran has laid the solid foundations for the two countries to further enhance their mutual cooperation.

Switzerland and Iran agreed to boost talks aimed at closer bilateral relations, including trade and human rights, during a two-day visit to Tehran in February by a high-ranking Swiss delegation, headed by President Schneider-Ammann.

The Iranian president in his message also wished good health and success for the Swiss president and glory and prosperity for the people and government of the country.

Since 1891, the first of August has been celebrated as Swiss National Day. The date refers to a historic alliance concluded in 1291 by the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden.
