TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Iran captain Javad Nekounam has been invited for Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City in Sweden.

The match will be played at the 44,000-capacity Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg on August 7 and Nekounam has been invited to watch the match.

He will also be honored on August 25 at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran with the participation of top football personalities in a testimonial match.

Nekounam, who is Iran’s most capped player with 151 international appearances, was handed his debut in 1998 by Iran’s Pas, before eventually moving to Europe to play for Osasuna in Spain between 2006 and 2012.

After brief spells with Esteghlal and Al Kuwait, he returned to Osasuna for the 2014-15 season, ahead of deals with Saipa and, finally, Al Arabi.
