Controversial Referee Benjamin Williams to Officiate Uzbekistan, Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Australian referee Benjamin Williams has been chosen to officiate Uzbekistan and Iran match in the 2018 World Cup qualification in Group A.
The match will be held in Tashkent’s Bunyodkor Stadium on Thursday.
The whistleblower issued nine yellow cards and a controversial red-card to Iran's Mehrdad Pooladi in the 2015 Asian Cup quarter-final between Iran and Iraq, where Team Melli lost to its neighbor on penalties.
Iran Carlos Queiroz was previously fined $3000 for criticizing Williams after his side's 2-0 opening win against Bahrain in the Asian Cup.
