Senior Iranian, Russian Officials Discuss Bilateral Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and visiting Chairwoman of Federation Council of Russia Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko held talks in Tehran on a range of issues, from mutual cooperation in the energy industry to joint action in fighting terrorism.

During the meeting, held in Tehran on Monday, Zarif and Matviyenko hailed “strategic relations” between Iran and Russia, calling for efforts to boost ties.

The two officials also emphasized the need for convening ‘Iran-Russia joint economic commission’, and discussed the ways to draft the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, implement the previous bilateral agreements, enhance cultural ties, ease visa requirements for reciprocal visits, hold Islam-Christianity talks, and fight off terrorism.

They also talked about the latest developments in Iraq and Syria, as well as the post-election situation in the US.

Heading a parliamentary delegation, the Russian speaker has visited senior Iranian officials in her visit to Tehran.
