Slovenia’s President in Tehran for Economic Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Slovenian President Borut Pahor arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on bilateral and economic ties.
Leading a 60-strong trade delegation, Pahor is accompanied by the ministers for economy and foreign affairs, according to a statement by his office, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported.
The visit is to be an opportunity to deepen dialogue in all fields, especially in the economy, it added.
The Slovenian president will reopen his country’s embassy in Tehran after three years of closure during his two-day visit.
In March 2013, in response to the difficult financial and economic situation in Slovenia, the European country’s government decided to shrink its diplomatic network as part of general austerity policies.
Along with bilateral relations, international hot spots and regional developments, in particular in the European Union, Western Balkans and Iran's neighborhood are also expected to be discussed.
On the first day of his visit, Pahor is planned to meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the report said.
He is also scheduled to sit down with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani as well as the country’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani during his stay in the capital.
As part of the visit, the visiting president will also address an Iran-Slovenia business conference on Tuesday, which will also feature 60 representatives of 45 Slovenian companies.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani recently called for attempts to enhance relations between Tehran and Ljubljana in light of the removal of anti-Iran sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
