Iran Could Host Asian Championships, WA President Erdener Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - World Archery President and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Dr. Ugur Erdener says that Iran can host the Asian and world championships but the country’s archers should improve their performance first.

The President visited the Iranian federation’s facility in his two-day trip to Tehran.

The Turkish official met President of the Iran's National Olympic Committee (NOC) Kioomars Hashemi and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Masoud Soltanifar in his visit.

“I am happy to come to Iran and visited the country’s archery camp. I would like to thank Mr. Shojaei (president of Iran Archery Federation) to arrange a meeting with some Iranian parliament’s members as well,” Erdener said.

“Iran should participate at the Grand Prix and continental competitions to pave the way for hosting the Asian and world championships. Iran archery should improve its level,” he added.

Ugur Erdener also said that he will support the female Muslim archers in the international events.

The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc) is going to enhance and support the development of professional capabilities and standards in the sport.
