Iran's Oil Exports to India Surge to Record High in 2016: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India’s oil imports from Iran in 2016 rose to a record high of nearly 473,000 barrels per day (bpd), a report said.

According to ship tracking data and a report compiled by Thomson Reuters Oil Research and Forecasts, India shipped in about 473,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil from Iran last year.

The amount is up from 208,300 bpd in 2015, the data showed.

Reliance Industries, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) were among Indian refiners that resumed imports from Tehran in 2015 following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.

The sanctions were terminated after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) on July 14, 2015, finalized a lasting nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and implemented it on January 16, 2016.
