Iran Rules Out Meeting between Zarif, Tillerson

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman quashed rumors that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif may have a meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Wayne Tillerson on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany.

Asked about media speculation that Zarif and Tillerson may meet in Munich, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday that no such meeting would ever take place.

“We strongly deny such issue and rumor,” the spokesman said.

“We have no relations with the US, hence there will not be any negotiations,” the spokesperson told ISNA.

As announced several times before, Qassemi explained, Iran is not going to hold any more talks with the US on nuclear issues or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), except on certain technical issues that will be dealt with through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Heading a high-ranking diplomatic delegation, Foreign Minister Zarif arrived in Munich on Friday to attend the 53rd edition of the MSC.

On Friday evening, the senior Iranian diplomat held meetings with a number of his foreign counterparts and top EU and UN officials.
