Repelling Suicide Car Attacks Practiced in IRGC War Game

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force troops practiced destroying suicide vehicles in a war game underway in eastern parts of Iran.

The final day of the drills, codenamed “Payambar-e Azam 11 (The Great Prophet)”, began in eastern parts of Iran with a broad operation by the Saberin Special Forces on Wednesday morning.

As part of the exercises, the elite forces practiced tactics to counter suicide car attacks widely used by Takfiri terrorist groups.

A number of hypothetical enemy’s explosive-laden vehicles were annihilated in the drill as they were approaching the IRGC troops.

Elsewhere in the operation zone, the IRGC Ground Force Armor Units employed T-72 tanks and homegrown ‘Boraq’ personnel carriers to close in on planned positions.

The IRGC Ground Force Airborne Unit also flew helicopters over the war game zone to support the ground troops with rockets and missiles.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were flown beforehand for reconnaissance.

Spokesman for the war game, General Pourjamshidian, told reporters that heliborne operations were also conducted to deploy commandos to certain spots.

On Monday, IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour announced that his forces had successfully test-fired advanced and smart rockets in the drills.

Iran’s Armed Forces hold routine military exercises throughout the year.

Iranian officials have made it clear that the country’s military program will not be hampered by anything, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), which took effect in January 2016.
