Iranian Speaker Expects Lingering Crises in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani expressed the hope that neighboring Iraq would get rid of terrorists with the liberation of the city of Mosul, stressing the need for concerted action to tackle the crises that are expected to persist in the region.

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani predicted that regional crises would persist in future, stressing the need for joint efforts to address the conflicts that are expected to rise given the new international developments.

Salim al-Jabouri, for his part, expressed the hope that the Iraqi city of Mosul would be liberated from the control of terrorists soon, saying Baghdad owes victories in the military battle against terrorists to its friends, particularly to Iran.

In recent years, Iraq has been facing the threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

Daesh militants made advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

Amid tensions in Iraq, Iran is known as the first country to help the Arab country and has always voiced support for Iraq’s solidarity and prosperity.
