Iran, Azerbaijan Hold Business Forum in Oroumiyeh
OROUMIYEH (Tasnim) – High-ranking delegations and economic activists from Iran and Azerbaijan held a business forum in the northwestern Iranian city of Oroumiyeh in a bid to boost trade relations between the two neighboring countries.
The business forum took place in Oroumiyeh on Thursday night with Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev in attendance.
The governor of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province and 300 others, including local officials, merchants, investors and economic activists from private sectors of the two countries also attended the gathering.
During the forum, the two sides exchanged views about ways to boost cooperation in a wide range of fields, including the construction industry, food industry, agriculture, education, investment, tourism, packaging, and livestock.
Speaking at a conference on Iran-Azerbaijan trade interaction in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardebil earlier on Thursday, Vaezi had said that a lot of barriers to trade exchange with neighboring Azerbaijan have been removed, pointing to a high level of satisfaction among both Iranian and Azeri exporters and merchants.
Heading a delegation, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev paid a trip to Iran to hold talks with senior officials of the Islamic Republic and sign trade agreements.
Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge a closer partnership in various areas.
In February 2016, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven memorandums of understanding and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
