IPC President Sir Philip Craven to Visit Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee, will attend Iran’s Para Athletic League in May, an Iranian official announced on Sunday.

The competition will bring a total of 450 men and women athletes together in Tehran’s Aftab Enghelab Stadium from May 2 to 6.

Bahman Rezaei, head of Iran’s Para Athletic Association, said that the competition is very important since new athletes will be called up to the national team for the upcoming competitions and it keeps the team fresh and ready.

“Three major tournaments are ahead of us. The World Para Athletics Championships will be held in London from July 14 to 23, the first ever Junior World Championships will take place in Nottwil, Switzerland, from August 3 to 6 and the 2017 Asian Youth Para Games will take place in Dubai from 10 to 14 December,” Rezaei said.

“The new and young talented athletes will emerge in the league and it will help us for the 2018 Para Asian Games in Indonesia as well,” he added.

“Mr. Craven has been scheduled to attend the competition and his presence will encourage our athletes,” Rezaei concluded.
