Iran’s Esteghlal Eases Past Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun: ACL

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Two-time Asian champion Esteghlal of Iran eased past Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun 3-0 in Group A of the 2017 AFC Champions League on Monday.

Kaveh Rezaei was on target just 50 seconds into the match at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Al Taawoun backline failed to clear a long throw-in from the right and the ball eventually fell kindly to Rezaei, who finished through a crowd of defenders from eight yards.

The Iranian football team extended the lead in the 70th minute when Al Taawoun again was unable to clear the ball, Mohsen Karimi was on hand to finish from six yards.

With two minutes remaining, Brazilian defender Leandro Padovani scored with a header to seal a 3-0 victory for Esteghlal.

All four teams in the table have three points after Uzbekistan's Lokomotiv defeated Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates 2-0 in Monday’s other Group A fixture.
