Persepolis Edges Esteghlal Khuzestan in IPL
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team moved a step closer to winning the Iranian Professional League (IPL), completing a nervy 1-0 win over title-holder Esteghlal Khuzestan in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Thursday.
Mehdi Taremi found the back of the net with a header in the 16th minute from a good cross from Farshad Ahmadzadeh.
In the second half, the visiting team put Persepolis under pressure but failed to equalize the match.
Persepolis moved 11 points clear at top of IPL table with this win.
Elsewhere, rock-bottom Machine Sazi edged past Sanat Naft Abadan thanks to Ahmad Amir Kardar’s second minute goal.
Zob Ahan was held to a 1-1 draw by Naft Tehran in Isfahan.
Tractor Sazi, who is second in the table, will face Foolad in Ahvaz on Friday.
