Yemeni Forces Kill, Injure Dozens in Attacks on Saudi Positions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni army soldiers, backed by fighters from Popular Committees, launched major offensives against Saudi positions in the kingdom’s southwestern province of Jizan, leaving scores of soldiers dead and injured.

According to a report carried by the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website on Thursday, Yemeni forces targeted five Saudi military bases in Jizan, inflicting significant casualties and damage on them.

The report added that nearly 40 Saudi troops were either killed or injured in the process of the clashes.

In addition, seven vehicles belonging to the regime were destroyed in the multi-pronged operation.

Separately, the Yemeni army on Tuesday shelled two Saudi military bases in the kingdom’s southwestern border region of Najran, leaving large groups of Saudi soldiers dead and injured.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

At least 11,000 Yemenis, including women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
