Iran’s SNSC Secretary Sympathizes with Russia over Deadly Terror Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani strongly condemned a recent deadly terrorist attack in Russia’s Saint Petersburg metro station, and called for the international community’s all-out fight against terrorism.

In a Wednesday message to his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, Shamkhani offered his condolences over the deaths of “innocent people” in the terrorist attack.

“(Such) barbaric crimes committed by terrorist groups against innocent citizens indicate that effective and all-out confrontation with the anti-human elements, their intellectual origin and their supporters should be a top security priority for the international community,” he stressed.

He further highlighted Iran-Russia cooperation in counter-terrorism, and said such measures by failed extremists cannot undermine the determination of countries that are at the front line of the fight against Takfiri terrorism.

On Monday, a bomb blast in the St Petersburg metro system killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens more.

An unidentified explosive device went off on a train after leaving Sennaya Ploshchad station and heading to the Technology Institute station, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee said.

Russian security agencies found and defused a second explosive device at the Ploschad Vosstaniya station, one of the city’s busiest stations, the committee also said.
