Iran Suffers Third Successive Defeat at FIVB World League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran suffered its third defeat in a row in the 2017 FIVB World League week 3 Sunday night.

Igor Kolakovic’s men were defeated against Russia in straight sets (26-24, 25-18, 25-18).

Russia sealed a berth in the Final Six in Curitiba with the win.

Egor Kliuka, who was the star man in Saturday’s epic victory against USA, top scored for the Russians again with 13 points, but it was Russia’s defensive display which shone bright – Ilyas Kurkaev won three blocks from just nine attempts.

Mojtaba Mirzajanpour contributed 12 points for Iran – the only one of their players to score more than eight – but it was a strangely subdued performance from the Asian giant.

Iran had lost to USA and Poland in Pool H 1.

The Iranian team failed to book a place in Final Six.
