Iranian Cleric Calls Quds Day Rallies Manifestation of Hate for US

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami hailed the high turnout in the rallies held to mark the International Quds Day and said the demonstrations proves Muslims’ hatred towards the global arrogance (the US).

Addressing a huge gathering of worshipers in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Khatami pointed to the anti-Israeli and anti-US rallies held in Iran and other parts of the world to mark the Quds Day and said they were “manifestation of hate for the (global) arrogance”.

Hatred for arrogance is not only a political issue, he said, adding that it is a culture rooted in the Quranic teachings.

The cleric further emphasized that “the bloody paws of the (global) arrogance” can be seen everywhere in the Muslim world.

Millions of fasting Iranian people from different walks of life poured into the streets in cities across the country on Friday to join the demonstrations in support of Palestinians, who have been suffering from Israel’s atrocities for decades.

Each year, the International Quds Day is celebrated across the world on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The event’s raison d'être is renewing support for the Palestinians and denunciation of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
