Israel Places Palestinian Hunger Striker under Administrative Detention
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Zionist regime of Israel has placed Palestinian hunger striker Bilal Diab under the so-called administrative detention for six months, a report said.
Diab, 32, was detained on July 14 in his home in the village of Kafr Raai in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, and started a hunger strike the same day, Ma'an news agency reported.
He has been detained and incarcerated by the Israeli forces on multiple occasions.
According to Palestinian prisoner solidarity network Samidoun, he had been previously held under allegations of participating in activities of the Islamic Jihad movement.
He was last released from Israeli prison on December 15, 2015, according to Samidoun.
Diab also took on a 77-day open hunger strike in prison in 2012, alongside Thaer Halahleh, in protest against their administrative detention. He was released on August 9, 2012, after reaching an agreement with Israeli authorities to end his strike.
Rights groups say that Israel's administrative detention policy has also been used as a tool to disrupt Palestinian political and social processes, notably targeting Palestinian politicians, activists, and journalists.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,200 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of May, 490 of whom were held in administrative detention.
