Iranian, Serbian Parliament Speakers Discuss Closer Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the president of the National Assembly of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic, exchanged views about ways to boost bilateral relations between the two countries in diverse fields, tourism in particular.
Speaking at the meeting held in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani highlighted the potentials that should be tapped to promote economic and political relations between Iran and Serbia.
He emphasized that parliamentary friendship groups could help boost the level of the bilateral ties.
Gojkovic, for her part, said Serbia is willing to deepen relations with the Islamic Republic, adding that for this purpose, a motion will be proposed in the Serbian parliament to lift visa restrictions for Iranians visiting the Southeastern European country.
The president of the National Assembly of Serbia was among more than 130 foreign dignitaries attending President Rouhani’s inauguration in the Iranian parliament on Saturday.
There has been a new wave of interest in ties with Iran, especially among European countries, since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.
The comprehensive nuclear deal, known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
