Iran Not to Renegotiate JCPOA Under Any Circumstances: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani rejected the idea of reopening negotiations on the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, emphasizing that Tehran is not willing to renegotiate even a single clause of the agreement.

“Under no circumstances will Iran renegotiate any article of the JCPOA,” Shamkhani told reporters on Tuesday.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.

In a major confrontational stance against Iran on October 13, US President Donald Trump refused to certify the multilateral deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program. Speaking from the White House, Trump said he will choose not to certify that Tehran is complying with the agreement.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the senior Iranian official said the country’s missile capabilities are also not up for negotiation.

Iran has always stressed that its military might and test of missiles are related to defense of its territorial integrity and have nothing to do with the JCPOA, the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) back in July 2015.

Iran has also underscored frequently that its military might poses no threat to other countries and that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
