Iranian Deputy FM in Oman to Boost Economic Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi started his official visit to Oman in a bid to boost Tehran-Muscat cooperation in diverse areas, economy in particular.

Heading a high-ranking economic delegation, Sarmadi arrived in Muscat on Tuesday and was welcomed by the sultanate’s foreign ministry officials.

In his first meeting in Muscat, the Iranian diplomat held talks with the executive president of the Central Bank of Oman, Tahir Salim al-Amri, on ways to promote banking cooperation between the two countries.

In his two-day visit, Sarmadi plans to hold talks with other senior Omani officials on bilateral relations and meet with a number of Iranian merchants working in the Arabian Peninsula country.

Last month, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a one-day visit to Oman and met with the sultanate’s officials, including Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah.

During his high-profile meetings with Omani officials, Zarif discussed the latest regional developments, as in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and the Persian Gulf region.

The two sides also explored avenues for the enhancement of Tehran-Muscat ties and cooperation in the field of energy, including gas transfer from Iran to India via Oman.
