Iran’s Foreign Ministry Introduces New Deputies after Revamping Structure

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif introduced his new deputies based on a revamped structure that focuses on economic policies and aims to promote the country’s international trade.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi, Zarif announced in a ceremony on Wednesday that Abbas Araqchi and Gholam Reza Ansari have been appointed as his political and economic deputies respectively.

Both deputies are newly formed.

Arqachi previously served as the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs.

Ansari will assume the new post after finishing his term as Iran’s ambassador to India in a few days.

Qassemi added that the new legal and international affairs deputy will be Gholam Hossein Dehqani while Hossein Panahi Azar is going to serve as the deputy for Iranians and parliamentary affairs, also a newly formed post.

The revisions to the administrative structure of the ministry come given the rapid pace of new international developments.

They are aimed at ushering in more agility in the ministry’s function.

By revamping its structure, the ministry is also going to better serve the country’s needs in the economic arena, especially in the wake of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers that removed sanctions against Tehran in exchange for limits on its peaceful nuclear program.
