Iran Ready to Help in Political Resolution of Crises in Syria, Yemen: Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the Islamic Republic is ready to facilitate a political solution to the crises in Syria and Yemen.

"What we need to do is put an end to the Yemen conflict," Zarif, who is currently in New York, told US’s National Public Radio on Tuesday.

"Iran has been prepared to look and to help achieve a political solution both in Syria and in Yemen,” he added.

Zarif said Iran has long called for a cease-fire in Yemen, but Saudi Arabia, wanted a quick military victory there.

"That quick military victory has taken them three years," he said.

"So, Saudi Arabia can decide today and stop this bloodshed."

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for over three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
