Spokesman Hits Back at OIC Chief over Anti-Iran Remarks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned recent remarks against Tehran by Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef al-Othaimeen, saying that he lacks “proper understanding of the sensitive situation of the region”.

“The OIC secretary-general has already had some biased and unconstructive stances on regional developments with his lack of proper understanding of the sensitive situation of the region and the Islamic world and particularly, the effective and decisive position of the organization,” Qassemi said in a statement on Friday.

“The irresponsible and clumsy statement by the OIC secretary-general is completely outside the scope of his duties and has been issued in violation of the principle of neutrality of the secretariat and is in line with the anti-Islamic policy of the US government, the Zionist regime and the Saudi government, and another step to undermine the credibility and position of this organization,” he noted.

The OIC chief is well-advised to stop taking stances in favor of the global arrogance (the US) and the Zionist regime of Israel, the Iranian spokesman stated.

Othaimeen has recently issued a statement, stressing that the US decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers would “lead to addressing the danger being posed by Iran’s policies to destabilize the security and stability of Islamic countries.”

In a speech from the White House on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany).

Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.
