No Dual Citizen in Iran Administration: Intelligence Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – There is no dual citizen on the staff of the Iranian administration, a lawmaker quoted the intelligence minister as saying, as a group of parliamentarians have prepared an extensive report on the Iranian officials that hold dual citizenship.

In an interview with Tasnim, rapporteur of a parliamentary commission said Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi has maintained that the administration does not include any dual citizen.

It came after the Iranian Parliament’s Investigation Team released a report on the senior officials who hold dual citizenship or carry US green card, listing 210 figures.

Alawi announced that his ministry has made an inquiry about the case and barred 101 people –named in the list of 210 people compiled by the parliament- from taking administrative posts, the MP added.

Last week, the Parliament’s Investigation Team released a 33-page report with 40 pages of documents and appendices after a year of research concerning the top officials with dual citizenship or green card.

The Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has received the report, which is going to be discussed at an open session of the parliament this week.

The case of top managers with dual nationality sparked debates in Iran after former director of Bank Melli, Mahmoud Reza Khavari, fled the country in 2011 in the wake of a $2.6 billion financial fraud.

The fugitive banker had become a Canadian citizen in 2005 while he had control over the purse strings.
