Senior Iranian Diplomat, Lebanese President Meet in Beirut
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister's Special Assistant for Political Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun conferred on latest bilateral, regional and international developments.
In a meeting held in Lebanese capital of Beirut on Monday, Jaberi Ansari submitted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's message to his Lebanese counterpart in which Rouhani had warned against the negative impacts of the US withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA.
Jaberi Ansari also briefed Aoun about Iran's ongoing efforts to end the Syrian crisis through political dialogue.
He also said that the Iranian president stressed the importance of strengthening Tehran-Beirut cooperation in all fields.
At the meeting, Aoun said Iran nuclear deal plays a leading role in maintaining regional stability, helps make the Middle East a region free of weapons of mass destruction.
He welcomed the commitment of other signatories to the JCPOA to continue with the deal after the US pullout.
Aoun also praised Iran’s efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, saying the settlement of the issue will facilitate return of Syrians to their country.
Also, Jaberi Ansari met Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and discussed the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
